The Challenge
Pratima's team contacted us with a request to make an Android app that supports widget functionality to reflect shrines on the home screen as well as feature a holiday calendar and other information in the app. As this application was to cater to Hinduism followers in India, Perpetio’s designers had to adjust the visuals to the audience’s preferences. It was paramount to consider the appropriate colors, images, and wordings for the app. Additionally, the project required a thorough exploration of Android widget development practices to ensure the home screen widgets were user-friendly and correctly displayed images.
The Solution
Perpetio worked on crafting a culturally resonant solution by infusing traditional Hinduism visuals and incorporating colors like gold and pink into the app's design. Focusing on Android development and widget functionality, we created a centralized app hub offering features like a holiday calendar and a diverse selection of shrine designs for users to place directly on their home screens.
The Result
Developed with utmost respect for Hindu traditions, Pratima preserves the sanctity of ancient practices while enhancing users’ spiritual journey. Perpetio successfully developed the first Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for the Android platform, seamlessly blending tradition with digital convenience. Users can now access a comprehensive calendar, choose from a variety of shrine designs, and easily place them on their home screens with a single tap. Additionally, the app provides insightful information about each calendar event and symbol, enhancing users' spiritual journey.
Calendar insights
With an in-app calendar view, users can check the special occasions in advance. The app’s home screen displays each day’s holidays. Every holiday is described in detail on a separate page, allowing users to learn more about it and set a reminder for one day before the holiday. Users can plan their celebrations with precision, aligning them with the auspicious timings of the sun and moon as they can view times of sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset on the app’s home screen.
Comprehensive information
The Pratima app features succinct and comprehensive details about each calendar event and sacred symbol, providing quick insights into their significance and rituals. Users can discover the profound meanings behind each image, gaining a deeper understanding of the sacred symbols that enrich their spiritual journey.
